Salim Kumar fulfills Alavikutty's dreams

Alavikutty, a believer in his seventies, who hails from Malappuram had a strong desire for a pilgrimage to Mecca. But lack of money on travel expense forced him to stay back. But now hopefully Alavikutty can visit Mecca with the help of actor Salim Kumar, winner of this year's National and state film award. Salim Kumar had earlier announced that he would render help to a poor Muslim person who wants to visit the holy place Mecca. Salim Kumar wished to visit Mecca after he had acted in the role of a man longing to visit Mecca in `Adaminte Makan Abu'. But a non Muslim is not permiited to visit Mecca, Minister M.K. Muneer suggested the idea to select a person from a poor Muslim family, who in all means has the freedom to visit the Holy place. Accordingly Alavikutty Koppilakal from Malappuram District has got selected. Wednesday Salim Kumar reached Kozhikode and announced Alavi's name in a press meet. He told the famliy of Alavikutty that he would meet the expenses needed for the pilgrimage. An amount of Rs. 35,000 already paid as advance for booking at the Hajj committee office.
Salim Kumar said in the press meet that comedians should be considered for the best actor award and the state government must stop the practice of giving best comedian award following the style of Television Channels.
