Prithviraj filed case against website for screening 'Urumi'

Actor Prithviraj filed a petition with Cochin cyber cell, against the website ashmagic.com which provided facilities to watch the movie 'Urumi' for free. Prithviraj is also one of the producers of the movie 'Urumi', which hit kerala theatres three weeks back.

S.I Francis Perera of Cochin cyber cell, is investigating the case. The website ashmagic.com is owned by John Kodiyan, who works for Oracle in California,US. Its informed that Pritviraj is planning to file a case against him for a compensation of Rs 5 crores.

The website, however has declined the allegations against them saying the videos are hosted by third party websites.

On our investigation, its found that this is typical model in which these kind of websites work. They upload movies to free video sharing sites such as youtube, megaupload etc, and distribute the movie through their website by embedding or linking to the content. These websites makes money through online advertising schemes such as google adsense, and at the same time stay away from problems claiming they are not hosting the content.

Here are some of the websites we have come across,
which are actively promoting piracy and makes money though it.
