Film City in Ottappalam

A film city is proposed to be set up at Kanniampuram in Ottappalam, where it is known as the Kodambakkam of Kerala. Ottappalam is one of the favourite locations for film shooting in Kerala. There are houses such as the Varikkassery Mana and Kunnath Veedu, which are permanently rented out for film shooting. An average of 20 films shot every year in Ottappalam and surroundings. Four acres of land acquired for the Kanhirapuzha irrigation scheme will be utilised for the purpose, Ottappalam MLA Hamsa said.. An amount of 50 lakhs allocated for the purpose in the last budget. Estimated project cost is Rs. 15 crores and private participation is also mooted to set up the project. A meeting held in Thiruvananthapuram last week in this regard decided to speed up the process of transferring the land and preparing the project report.
