'Raavanan' overtakes Mohanlal, Mammootty!
In sync with a trend in Kerala for the past couple of years, Mani Ratnam's Ravanan has become a resounding success.
Vijay films such as 'Vettaikaran' and 'Sura' did great business in Kerala while they flopped in Tamil Nadu.
The mega budget film, captured by Santosh Sivan, has taken a bigger opening than any recent Mohanlal or Mammootty flick. 'Raavanan' stars Vikram, Prithviraj, Aishwarya Rai and Priyamani in important roles.
It was released in 66 screens in Kerala; the film's gross collection in the first week comes to Rs 1.67 crore. But the Hindi 'Raavan' did poor business in the state. It opened in just six screens in the state and the collections have been disappointing.
The Tamil version was helped by the presence of Vikram and Prithviraj and the aggressive promotions.
